The British Superteen Championship adopted new rules for 1999 and Michael continued in the class for a third successive year. After a diffcult opening few rounds Michael ended the season 12th in the Aprilia 125cc Challenge taking second position out of the riders in the Superteen category i.e riders aged between 17 and 20. He also took his first front row of the grid qualifying position and fastest race lap at Thruxton.
