Michael began his racing career on a production based NSR125cc Honda. Competing solely at 'club' level Michael won the North East Club Supersport 125cc Championship, finished 6th in the AUTO66 Club Supersport 125cc Championship and was voted 'Best Newcomer' by the North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters Club.
