27th June, 2009: TABOO Looks Ahead

TABOO Motorsport are all revved up ahead of the 6th round of the Relentless 125cc British Championship at Knockhill next weekend. Both riders have demonstrated their potential with Michael achieving 3 point scoring rides (including a career best 6th at Donington), while Tom continues to improve claiming a season best of 17th at Snetterton last time out and with it another top 6 finish within the Academy Cup.

Michael is now 16th overall in the British Championship with Tom 6th overall in the Academy Cup.

10th May, 2009: Double points for TABOO at Oulton.

TABOO Motorsport had a double reason for celebration at Oulton Park yesterday as riders (Michael Hill and Tom Weeden) secured the team’s first double points finish.

Team owner and rider Michael Hill was delighted with the way the weekend went and was suitably impressed with the maturity of his young protégé.

After qualifying 14th on a machine that is improving race by race thanks to the talents of technician Pete Banks, Michael was optimistic that a points finish was on the cards whilst TABOO’s Junior rider, 15 year old Tom Weeden qualified 31st and was also pleased with the progress and development of his machine.

The weather conditions for the 125cc race were far from ideal. Michael opted for full slick tyres whilst Tom ran with a slick rear tyre but opted for wet front.

Both riders made great starts making up a number of positions and both continued to battle hard throughout the race to with Michael just missing out on 10th position whilst Tom made it convincingly inside the top 20 in only his second British Championship event.
The results put Michael equal 20th in the British 125cc Championship after 2 rounds whilst Tom is 8th in the British Academy Cup.

TABOO Denied Double Top 10 Finish: 15th April, 2009

TABOO Motorsport and the TABOO Motorsport Junior Team of Michael Hill and Tom Weeden had mixed fortunes in the opening round of the 2009 Relentless 125cc British GP Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend. Plagued by machine problems including in Michael’s case a broken gearbox, both riders showed a great deal of maturity with staying positive and focused ahead of the 22 lap race.
With both riders mid pack despite early top ten promise in wet and dry conditions after qualifying it was Michael aboard the 7C (FRS) kitted machine that battled hard in the early laps to ensure a points finish was on the cards. It was not to be however as coming through clearways on lap 9 he was hit by another rider. The collision broke the exhaust meaning a premature end to Hill’s event.
Tom Weeden on the other hand worked his way steadily through the field to finish a very respectable 10th position in the Academy Cup.

Tom Weeden (10th in Academy Cup)

“A reasonable start to the season for me, we had major bike problems but thanks to the team and the extra help from Mark Keen they were mostly sorted out for the race. I now have my first BSB race meeting under my belt and I can move on from here. I finished the race and got points on the board in the Academy Cup, Hopefully I can improve on my riding and sort the bike out a bit more ready for Oulton Park. Its a big step up for me coming from Club racing, and racing against much more experienced competitors but I am enjoying the challenge and hopefully I can put in a good result in the next round"

Michael Hill (confident for the rest of the season despite being taken out)

“I am leaving Brands Hatch with mixed emotions. On the plus side I was fast in the wet and dry and had the pace for a top 12 finish in the race. I am however gutted to be denied a points finish because of someone else making a mistake but that’s racing. I have to take the positives and move on to Oulton Park in two weeks time. Steve and Pete worked extremely hard to give me a competitive bike and I think we showed a few people that on our day we can be genuine top 10 challengers. Tom also justified the faith that we have in him with a very mature ride to 10th in the Academy Cup in his first BSB outing despite numerous problems throughout the weekend.”
